Looking back with honor

Our company ‘G. S. Ramaswamy Chetty & Son’ was started in the year 1889 by a great visionary, Mr. G. S. Ramaswamy. During the British Rule, there was a sharp need for domestic furniture for hire by the British officers for their tenure of service in India, since buying furniture for that less time would be too expensive. After the end of their tenure, the same need was felt by the officers posted in their place. And Mr. G. S. Ramaswamy founded the company to cater to this need in the year 1889. It also catered to civil establishments, other Anglo-Indians & affluent families. With the passage of time, the company went on to be highly successful in this field as it fulfilled all the requirements with the best of quality and service.

After the demise of Mr. Ramaswamy, his son Mr. G. R Ramanujam was at the helm of the company. He named the organization ‘G. R. R’, and the company scaled new heights under his efficient management. From a limited profile of regular clients, he expanded the services for anyone who needed them and to any place they were required.

Post-Independence, the company was faced with a threat of shrinkage in business as the British were leaving the country, which resulted in stockpiling. However, Late Mr. G. R. Parthasarathy, son of Late Mr. G. R. Ramanujam, who was managing the company at that time, turned this situation around and resolved the crisis. A man with great forethought, he quickly adapted to the changing environment and started catering to the various needs arising during ceremonial events like marriages, naming ceremonies etc. Keeping the mission of the business intact, he carved out a new image for it. As an opportunist, he swiftly identified the different needs of the new industry and brought the company to a new threshold.
